turbo restore

 Got a  gross grimy  turbo  to  clean up and powder coat 

 this post is for the clean up  process 

 forgot to take a pic of the  compressor housing before i  blasted it  guess i was to  stoked to  start work !

housing  Had a yellow   grime   film on it  was  nasty looking . 

 quick   media  blasting  left us with a  fantastic  finish  and  perfect  base for powder coating  later on 

check out the size !

Now on to the  turbine housing 

as you can see it has  a  gross  heavy  rust  scale on it  even for  blasting it was  pretty  strong  so further  processes  were needed to be done to help make it  a  easy removal 

So out come the electrolysis. after about  15 mins in the  electrolysis hot tub  the scale was  super easy to  remove

Just look at hoe  nice a finish  we got compared to the original rust scale
  

once the owner  fingers out his waste gate  situation  the  turbine housing will get  a  high temp  ceramic  coating

Holes no more

So buddy wanted some trunk lid spoiler hoels filled in for his LEETS13 wants to roll with the shaved look and who can blame him !

So  the  plan is to  weld in some  new  metal  and  smooth it out with some  body filler. 

first  off start with the  center holes

 

a  weld hole backer plate  behined the   holes 

 the  back of the plate 

                                                    Welded and grinned down  pretty flush  

 next up is the  side hoels  

Same   backer / heat sink is   use like on the center holes behind that lil  circle of sheet metal

this  helps  pull  heat  away from the welding  to help  stop the sheet metal form  warping 

 drivers  side all welded up 

passenger side  coming  together

Time to get  some  smoothing going on

 filler added.  gonna  skip the  pics of   sanding  lol cause thats nothing  exciting  plus didn't' take pics with my messy dusty bondo  hands  lol 

 after a bunch of  sanding and  lil touch up  time for some high build primer 

lookign  smooth as  can be after a lil more sanding  with  600 grit  paper 

All  primed and sanded up  final product  hope to get  finish painted  pics off on on the car once its all done :)
